As I am a big fan of author Dawn Brower, I am not sure why it took me so long to start her Linked Across Time Series. Saved by my Blackguard is the first book in the series and after finishing it I can only say I am glad there are already more books in the series for me to read!
Paul is an overworked man in the 1980s when his doctor insisted he go on vacation for his health. Little did he know that a storm would somehow take him to another time and into the arms of a beautiful from another time. Evelyn is shipwrecked from the same storm. Forced together from circumstances, they find what each of them has been missing in life in each other. This is a fun and fast paced story, that shows love can flourish even in the strangest of circumstances. I give it 5/5 stars and look forward to the series. Link: http://a.co/3Xvs8Dy

So if anyone of you know me and follow this blog, you know that I love to read and I will read anything and everything. That includes YA books and I recently just finished a 6 book YA Fantasy series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. It is a series that mixes a lot of mythology from all over the world, combining myths and legends to form a modern day mythos of the world. I did like that he explained all the mythologies mixing together by saying all the gods of the world originally all came from the same place (think of a very large and advanced Atlantis). As someone who loves mythology and mixes it into her own writing, I really liked some of the concepts of these novels, however the execution did seem awkward and rushed in some places. Still these were fun and fast reads, something light to read when the harsh news of the world is getting you down. I would give the series a 3.5 star rating.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VZIQDXE/ Not too long ago I gave a movie review for the movie Lion, based on a true story. Well I loved the movie so much that I had to go buy the book on which the story was based. A Long Way Home is the story of how Saroo Brierley became a lost boy in India only to later be adopted by Australian parents and then to finally find his birth family decades later. It is a story of perseverance and hope. It is such a remarkable story that it could almost be a work of fiction, but it is all true. It's simply written, but none the less very moving. I did not cry while reading it (like I did at the end of the movie) but it was still a very touching tale that is well worth the read. In this world full of negativity this is a positive and hopeful book. I give it 5/5 stars just for the emotional impact of the story alone! Go read it.
Link: http://a.co/5ox0oEX This year I am committed to reading more and doing more book reviews. I know some indie authors might get mad when I review non-indie books, but hey I read both so why not review both right? I just finished reading The Fireman from Joe Hill. It's a post-apocalyptic tale of a disease that threatens to destroy all of mankind. For those of you who don't know, Joe Hill is Stephen King's son and I see this book as his intentional homage to his father's The Stand. While it is not quite as good as the The Stand, The Fireman is a good and intense read. Get a look at both the good and bad of human nature in this book. It is a long read and a little slow in a couple of places, but still a great read with touches of the author's humor in it. I give it 4.5/5 stars. I really like Joe Hill as an author and look forward to more from him soon. Not that Joe Hill needs my help promoting, but if you are interested in The Fireman, you can buy it on Amazon or at almost any bookstore! Dawn Brower is one of my favorite historical romance novels and she does not disappoint in A Treasured Lily, which is Book 2 of her Marsden series. The Lily in the title, is a rather spoiled and stubborn young woman who will do anything to live the life she wants. She schemes to get her way, and thinks everything is falling into place until a handsome American captain puts all her plans into a tailspin. This is a fast paced romp with strong characters who have you rooting for them. This is a story of becoming a true adult and finding true love all wrapped into one. I give it 5/5 stars. You can grab a copy on Amazon. I am still working on catching up on some book reviews, here is another for one of my fave authors, Dawn Brower. If you are looking for a fast paced, swashbuckling read or listen then look no further than A Flawed Jewel by Dawn Brower. A feisty heroine is kidnapped by a sexy pirate with lots of secrets and that's when the sparks start to fly. There are more than a few surprises along the way that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed to listening to this story on Audible. I give it 5/5 stars. You can buy a copy of A Flawed Jewel on Amazon. Sorry I have been missing of late, but I am back this week with some book reviews and more! One Heart to Give by Dawn Brower is a story about second chances, especially when it comes to love and family. I listened to this book on Audible and I loved the story. Dani is a strong, independent heroine who still exudes vulnerability. Ren was her childhood best friend who appears in her life once more. They both get a second chance to make up for mistakes of their past, but their reunion is full of drama from other areas of their life. Very fun and intriguing book. I look forward to more books from this series and these characters. 5/5 stars. You can find One Heart to give on Amazon! |
