Just last week I was talking about how I might have to start writing and publishing less due to life, but it seems the universe wants to help me out. First, I just received another acceptance for a short story to be part of an upcoming anthology on cults! I also found several anthology calls that I intend to write pieces for and take my chances. This would mean that I would at least consistently be putting out new material. Provided that I get some acceptances from these submissions. So fingers crossed there.
Not only did I find more anthologies to enter, but I also either won or was gifted some amazing covers over the weekend! Now these are covers for stories I don't have written yet, but getting beautiful covers not only helps me expense wise when self publishing, but I have already come up with some great ideas and I hope to get these books written and released this year! I am also working on getting money saved for a couple covers that I need for works in progress as well. So I might be able to self publish more than I thought just a week ago. Life has also sent me some good news and eased up on my stress load in just one week. I still have a lot of personal stuff going on that might affect my writing, but things are certainly looking up compared to just one week ago. Summer is coming! Looking for some fun beach/pool side reads? Here are a couple of short novellas that I have that are perfect for a summer day. And best of all, these books are only .99 cents! Summer Interrupted is part horror, part mystery and a touch of romance all in one book! Welcome to Oceanside Inn is a vampire short that is a bit out of the ordinary! The Discovery of a Lifetime mixes aliens, the legend of Atlantis, and romance. Lust, Sex and Tattoos is a steamy story that is exactly like the title implies.
Sometimes life throws you curve balls. I have had my fair share in my life and I always just keep on plugging away. Well I have found some unexpected hurdles pop up in my life at the moment. This means that I am going have to cut back some on my writing and publishing schedule, especially the self-publishing part of my writing life. Now this does not mean that I am going to stop writing. Nope, that is never going to happen. It just means that things are going to be going a little slower. And that I might be answering more open calls for my writing and trying to find more publishers to help shoulder the expenses of writing. I still have a lot of books that I want to self publish though and I will be doing so as I can. Writing is part of my heart and soul, so I won't be going anywhere I will just be slower for the time being.
That might mean that I won't be able to blog twice a week, though I am sure going to keep trying to. I will at least try to blog once a week and keep active. Life sometimes gets in the way of dreams, but you just have to keep rolling with the punches and become better for the experiences! Have you checked out my romantic novella The Discovery of a Lifetime? It combines my love of aliens and Atlantis with romance and more! All for only .99 cents! Link: mybook.to/DiscoveryofaLifetime Karina is the laughing stock of the archaeology world. Despite the naysayers she knows in her heart that she’s right, Atlantis is real and she will find it. With a mysterious backer and state of the art technology, she finds her heart’s desire and then some. Atlantis is not so lost after all, and their prince seems to only have eyes for her.
Faced with finding her dream, Karina must decide if she will give up the world above, all that she has ever known, for the chance at happiness in Atlantis and with the prince Theophilus. A night of passion seems to make the choice easy, but can she really stay in this land of legend? If Theophilus has anything to say about it she can. As I have talked about in the past here on this blog, this year back in January I started over in my exercise journey. I have been in various levels of shape over the years and my exercise and fitness routines have been knocked down more than once from health, surgeries, depression and other set backs. But this year seems different. Before I always exercised pretty much for vanity reasons. I wanted to look a certain way and keep my weight in check. This year I switched to exercising for health. I want to be healthy. I want to be stronger. I want to move better. And yes I still want to lose weight and look a certain way in my clothes. But now by having more and different motivations I have made exercise a way of life. I crave exercise and finally understand other people who crave exercise as well. Exercise helps my stress and my mind. It helps with my writing. It gives me energy at the day job. It's helped me heal from an injury that had me using a cane last year. It is slowly changing my life.
With this new found and truer appreciation of exercise, I have been thinking about even making this a side career for me. I have been looking into becoming a certified personal trainer this summer. I would love to really work with others who are coming back from illness or injury in particular. I have even been playing with the idea of starting YouTube channel once I am certified to help people workout in the comfort of their own homes, mostly where I myself like to workout. All of this is still in the planning stages. I am trying to decide where to get my certification from at the moment, so if I have any trainers reading this and who would like to give me some insight on the certification they received, please drop me a message, I would love to hear from you! As I am looking at the rest of my writing year, I am looking at the series that I have started that I need to work on. One of those is my Supernatural Agent Series, The Rise of the Inquisitor was the first in the series and two more books are planned. I am working on notes for book two right now and hope to get it out in late fall of 2019. In the meantime, check out the first book in the series! Link: mybook.to/TheRiseoftheInquisitor Special Agent Nadia Ivanovna has always been more than the average FBI agent. Her unnatural senses have led her to have a 100% success rate with her cases; that is until she is put on the case of the mysterious serial killer only known as the Inquisitor. When her main suspect turns out to be the charming and alluring Charles Ainsworth, someone with secrets so close to her own, her whole world gets turns upside down. Now she is torn between doing her job and finding out more about herself and where she truly came from. Duty, lust, and the need to belong war inside Nadia’s soul and even she has no idea which she will choose.
Last month was one of the most productive months that I have had as an author and artist in quite some time. I've finally seemed to have broken out of my creative funk and it got me to thinking about what had helped snap me out of my funk. Now there are many things that have changed, I have been exercising more, I have been trying to get my health under control, my life has been changing in big and small ways, but one thing really sticks out as to helping give my creativity a boost: music. I have been listening to music a lot once more, when I was going through a depression I had sort of stopped listening to music very much and I think that only helped to deepen the depression. Then I happened to stumble upon the music of Harry Styles. Sure, he's been around for a bit in the pop world and his solo album which I am obsessed with came out two years ago, but I just found him and his solo album and it truly shows the power of music by the way that one album has affected my life and my own art.
I don't know what it is about the Harry Styles album, but it helped me feel a little better during my dark period. It unleashed some creative juices for me too. I started to teach myself to oil paint. I also decided to paint more personal images, not my usual cute art. I am trying to truly express myself in my art and that is a scary and empowering idea at the same time. Same goes for my writing. Not only am I writing more, I am starting to write more of the genres that I want, not listening to what the market wants. I am working on a lot of fantasy this year. I am also working on some more realistic romance, meaning that there are a lot more real life problems in the romances I am working on, putting in divorce, death, illness, and adding diversity. I am trying to become more true to myself in all aspects of my life and then add that into my art and writing and its all thanks to listening to more music. Well it's already a new month, which means it's time to see how I did last month and set some goals for this new month. April wrap-up: I continued my trend of writing a little more each month. April was my best month of writing this year and maybe the best in the past two years. I am almost finished with the second in my Port Stone novella series. I am also making lots of progress on the sequel to my fantasy novel Quest for Redemption. I am also working on a contemporary romance as well. And of course I had my first solo release of the year with Port Stone: Dangers of the Swamp. I also was part of two anthologies that released After: Undead Wars and Flash Fiction Addiction. And as I talked about Monday on my blog, I also really got back into art this past month. May goals: Now onto my goals for this month. I want to hopefully write at least 20K words and not only finish, but get the second Port Stone book off to my editor for a July release! I would also like to get 10K more words in Quest for Self. I need to work some on marketing, especially Port Stone and hopefully get a bump in sales. And in the art part of my life I want to do at least 3 more oil paintings, maybe sell a painting, and work more on the many miniatures that I have to paint.
So how was your April? What are your plans for May? Drop you accomplishment and goals in the comments and lets cheer each other on! |
