I was lucky enough to get an advanced review copy of Ten After Closing by Jessica Bayliss and I am thrilled to have gotten to read this book. This is not the first time that I have read something by Ms. Bayliss, but it is the longest of her works that I have read and I really can't wait to read more novels by her. Ten After Closing is a gripping YA novel that is told from two points of view and from two timelines, one moving forward and one moving backwards to show the events leading to what happens in a cafe ten minutes after closing. This is a crime drama, but it is also so much more. It weaves a complex tale of teenagers struggling with their parents, their relationships, their lives, their futures and then being thrown into a terrifying situation on top all of that. This novel is a thrilling ride that readers of all ages should take. 5/5 Stars for sure! Ten After Closing will be available on September 4, 2018. So I recently watched The Kissing Booth on Netflix and thought it to be a cute teen movie. Since it was based on a book, a YA book written by a teenage author who has had great success, well I had to read that book. The Kissing Booth is even sweeter than the movie of the same name. Luckily the characters in the book have a bit more depth and are more likable even than the cute kids in the movie. This is a teen coming of age book, that the author probably was experiencing a bit when she wrote this book. There's really nothing else to say, this is a fun and quick read, perfect for a lazy day of light entertainment. I give this book 4/5 stars and recommend it if you like YA stories. I look forward to reading more from this young author. Link: http://a.co/5J7FVvy The Venom Protocols is packed with action from the very beginning to the very end. As you follow Charlie through the crazy ride that is her life, with interaction with the FBI to the mob to a nefarious agency, you are never left with a dull moment. This was the first book that I have read from author John Murray McKay and I really enjoyed it. The end is set up for a sequel that I would definitely be interested in reading. All in all this was a real page turner and I give if 4/5 stars. Here is the link so you can pick up a copy if interested. http://a.co/eu391KA Guess who has actually been reading some more and has some more book reviews to post? This gal! Cherry Carpenter is a new author and I believe this is her first book, at least it is the first book of hers that I have read. What can I say about Hot as Hell? That the title is very accurate! This book is hot, hot, hot! There are some very steamy scenes interwoven with a mystery and both keep you turning the page. I am happy that there will be other books in this series as I want more! I give this book 4.5 stars for all the steaminess! You can grab your own copy here. Hi all. I am back to trying to blog on a regular basis and am in the midst of catching up on my reading and reviewing (and beta reading). So that means more reviews will be coming. I have not read as much poetry as I have fiction and history books, but I do like poetry and thought that I would try to write a review of Dream Poem by KD Rose. This is a collection of moving poems that cover the gamut of what I am going to call the human condition. The poet touches on everything from Black Lives Matter to aging parents to mental illness. Each poem captures real emotion and makes you take time and think about your life and your condition. I found that this collection really made me stop and think about how fleeting time is and how we should make the most of what we have. Of course poem are very personal, so each reader will probably come away with something different and that's the beauty of art that makes you think. So I am giving this collection a 5/5 stars. It was the perfect length to get a good walk in while listening to an entertaining short story. This is a quick, steamy little tale about a no monster that I have ever thought about living under the bed! Flirty fun that makes the minutes fly by! This is an entire series my Rebekah Lewis and I definitely intend to read or listen to the rest! 4.5/5 stars for sheer fun! Link: http://a.co/3jVOJ47 Blurb:
An erotic paranormal SHORT STORY Maddy has an embarrassing secret: there's a monster under her bed. For some reason, it has followed her from one home to the next, always there but never seen. She's learned to live with it, but something has changed. It has set its sights on her, and its lust could very well be her undoing. Author's note: Best when paired with Volume 2, "The Monster in the Closet" Hey look who is back getting some book review written! Leona Bushman is one of my favorite romance authors, mainly for the fact that she mixes so many genres with her romance. Darkest Valentine is no different. This story blends history, romance and dark suspense in a seamless way. This is a very quick and entertaining read. The hero has some secrets, but not everything is as it seems with him. The heroine is feisty and full of life despite being a lady back in the days where women didn't have many rights. There are some well written side characters that help to add depth to this story. Overall its a great read and I look forward to hopefully reading more about these characters. 5/5 Stars! Heiress Lady Lilliana has been lonely most of her life. An overbearing father, abusive brother, and she's ready to toss the idea of marriage completely. But when her brother tries to have her kidnapped, she is saved by the Dark Duke, Clarence Leo Hardwick III, Duke of Cantebury, and all of a sudden, marriage doesn't seem such an awful prospect. He could keep her safe from her brother and provide the title Father expected. She enjoyed their kisses and the way he made her feel. However, despite saving her from an ugly fate, he kept secrets that she wasn't sure she could forgive. The Dark Duke enjoyed his reputation. The darker the better. It kept most mothers from throwing their daughters at his feet. While out at his secret warehouse by the London docks, he witnessed a female in distress and went to help. Something about her caught his interest, especially when he learned who she was. He determined he would marry her, gain himself a wife capable of courage and loyalty, and extract revenge all in one swoop. He wants her, but can she love him after he reveals his secrets? Fighting her father for her hand against a Marquess while protecting her from her brother's nefarious schemes proved a difficult task, especially when the spirited Lilliana kept his mind occupied on making her his. Continued attempts to kidnap Lilliana, as well as an attempt on her life convinces him he needs to marry her sooner rather than later and has to get her cooperation before it was too late. But how could he convince her to take a chance on him when his past held such darkness? I am finally back with some book reviews! Yay! I bought the BadRedHeaded Media 30-Day Book Marketing Challenge for the same reason that most people do, to try to improve my book marketing and hopefully sell more books. I found that this is a well written book with several useful and easy to implement tips that did indeed help my marketing. It is the reason I set up my 3 day a week blogging schedule. I have gained followers on my blog, twitter, and fb to a degree. I think that I learned a lot that can help me continue improving as an author who has to market her books. If you are an author looking for something that you can do today to help market your books, I recommend giving this challenge a try. 5/5 stars for the results I saw. I know that is has been around for awhile and that numerous people have already been touched by this book and that there has been a movie made from it. But I believe some books are meant to be read at certain times in your life. I think that was the case in this instance. I am about to turn 40 later this week and it is a time in my life when I am thinking about where I fit in, thinking of making changed, trying to become a more authentic self. This was the perfect book to read for where I am in my life. It is a moving story about one woman's journey to find balance within herself and that is something that I can totally relate to. I found this book very inspiring and I think that the thoughts and feelings that it brought up withing myself are going to help me make some changes this year and beyond. Great book! If you are looking for a fast and steamy read, this is the book for you. Taking a fairytale into modern times and turning up the heat in a very sensual way. This story captured the thrill of falling in love in such an accurate and quirky way that I read it in less than a day. I just couldn't put it down! There is a nice, slow build to the tension in this book that just keeps you hooked until the end. 5/5 stars for sure! Link: http://a.co/0jKZzBj Blurb: For Erik Anderson, the Copenhagen line is his curse. He takes the train every night en route to collect souls. Like any lovelorn fool, he bargained his own long ago, and now pays the price—a lifetime of loneliness as a grim reaper. Stay distant—that’s been his mantra and what keeps him sane. Until Mina Castner drops into his life like a whirlwind, one spilled drink leading to staying up until dawn with the woman. He believed one night couldn’t hurt, but he sorely underestimated her determination. Every encounter between them is a reprieve from the guilt of reaping souls every night, but it can’t last. Even if she sparks long buried feelings, and even if her sheer presence intoxicates him, he can’t let this continue. For humans, his touch is poison, and if he slips up, it could cost her life. |
