I had a small set back health wise this past week, one that sent me to urgent care and to the doctor. So that means my fitness regime was also set back somewhat. I missed my yoga, strength training, and step goal for the last three days. Still, the first part of the week started out well and I kept to my fairly healthy diet, so I ended up actually losing a pound! Woo hoo!
Tomorrow is a new week and I am feeling better, which means I am ready to hit my exercise goals hard once more! Sure I had a set back, but life is full of setbacks. I am still doing what I can and making progress in bettering my health and that is what counts. I still need to figure out a way to get to the gym and really start strength training, but until then I have found some wonderful full body workouts on Youtube. What would I do without Youtube? lol Anyways, I am behind in my 31 days of yoga, but I am planing on catching up and finishing my commitment to myself. I am also going to try really hard to beat my brother in our weekly workweek step challenge on Fitbit. I also need to strength train at least three times. I can do this! I also have a couple accountability friends on FB, where we check in with each other and encourage each other to reach out goals, in health, writing and life in general! So just a couple months ago my big dog Charlie needed to have some skin cancer removed along with a dental procedure. Now it seems to be my little dog Eowyn's turn. She needs to go in for a dental procedure later this month, so that means I need to earn some extra money to help pay for her procedure. So that means I am selling lots off art and jewelry at discount prices! If you see anything that you like, please let me know. I also do commissions for both art and jewelry. Below are some of the items that I have available. Just message me about anything that you like! I need to raise at least $350 for the procedure, so every dollar helps! As some of you that read this blog on a regular basis, I am trying to focus a little more time on my art. What better way to do that than to agree to take part in a group art show at a local gallery? So that is what I did. This October I will be part of a Halloween themed show. I need to get 5 pieces painted before then. Eek! A gallery show? It almost makes me feel like a real artist! Right now I am just in the sketching and ideas phase, but here are a couple quick sketches that I hope to turn into watercolor paintings later this month. Still thinking on the other three ideas. Shout out in the comments on what kind of Halloween paintings you would love to see. These are very rough sketches, I will take a lot more time for the actual paintings!
As I work on self edits on my Port Stone fantasy story, I am working on a new m/m romance story tentatively titled Ice Breakers. It is a hockey romance that is sure to steam up the pages! I haven't gotten to the naughty parts yet, but I know that they are coming. This is the fourth m/m piece that I have written and I am taking what I learned from the other pieces.
This may be a hot romance, but at the heart this is a love story. Two men find each other at the oddest moment and sparks simply fly. They have a lot to overcome, but love is one of the most powerful forces in the world. I hope to have the rough draft of this novella finished soon and hope to get it edited and to my publisher by the first of September. This is a busy writing month for me, I just hope that I have enough energy to get everything done. Then next month I plan on working on the long awaited sequel to Quest for Redemption, Quest for Self. I have a brand new shiny cover for it, not I need to finish it to share with the world! Last month I successfully launched my newsletter and this month I am gearing up to release the second! As a treat for my newsletter subscribers I offer a free book for a limited time that is only announced in my newsletter! Plus of course I talk about new releases, writing news and more!
You can sign up here: http://eepurl.com/cS7fM1 I look forward to sharing so much with you! I am two weeks into my personal fitness challenge and things are going well despite my health trying to get in the way. I have been doing yoga every day and it is getting easier, I feel my body moving better, though balance is an issue for me some days. I still do the best I can each day and keep showing up at the mat. I am also trying to keep up with my daily step goal, though I have missed the mark there some days as I continue to add other exercises to my routine. I am adding abs on most days, and alternating legs and arms, trying to build muscle and strength.
Last Monday I actually went to the gym for the first time in forever. I went with someone younger and in better shape than me, but I didn't die. Okay abs almost killed me, but I was pleased to see that my legs are still strong! As soon as I can logistically figure out how to get to the gym on a regular basis I will be joining and going as often as I can. It felt good to do a serious workout. I have also been making an attempt to eat healthier of late, this included eating more vegetarian meals. Of course I still have a burger a week, but hey a girl can't be perfect! Still, small steps will hopefully lead to big changes. I have managed to lose about 3.3 pounds in the past two weeks and I hope to see the scale moving lower and lower. Recently my husband and I went to see Dunkirk, a movie that we have been waiting to come out all year. Christopher Nolan did not disappoint in my opinion. This is a touching and real war movie without being too graphic. It focused more on the young men trapped on a French beach as the Germans surrounded them. Beautiful story telling, for the enemy is not really seen except for some planes, you just sense the fear in the men fearing their impending doom. As with any movie based on a true story, some liberties were taken, but over all this is a wonderful tribute to what happened on that beach. If you are interested in true stories, WWII, or war stories in general then go see this movie. You won't be disappointed. Today I thought that I would start a new series for my blog, talking about my latest writing in progress! Right now I just finished the rough draft of the first novella in a series that I plan to write called the Port Stone series. It is a high fantasy series, full of magic, elves, and mystery. The two lead characters are strong females that fight their own battles and kick quite a few men's asses along the way.
The first novella will be called Port Stone: Dangers of the Swamp. Think of the horrors and nastiness of a medieval town and you have a good idea what Port Stone is like. Separation of the classes, which of course involves species in a fantasy world, plays a major part in the story. It's hopefully for a magazine market and I am pretty proud of it. It is out to my beta right now and I hope to have it submitted by the end of the month. I am inspired by my love of fantasy, from JRR Tolkien to George RR Martin to playing Dungeon & Dragons. Hopefully I have found a market for this story, but if not I will get it to my editor and self-publish as this is a story I am really proud of and a fun and new direction for my writing to take. Stay tuned for more writing updates on my current projects. I'll be talking stories, characters, inspiration, and more! If you have questions I will be happy to answer. Time for another burger review from the Bob's Burgers Cookbook! This past weekend the hubby and I made the Chile Relleno-You -Didn't Burger. Basically a burger topped with a cheese filled poblano pepper, fried in an egg batter. It was delicious and much easier to make than I originally expected. My only complaint is that I think it needed some sort of sauce and I will figure out one to put on it the next time that I make it and I will be making it again. It gets two thumbs up from both the hubby and myself! This one ranks right up there at the top!
